Top thrills or itty, bitty hills -- what kind of amusement park rider are you? Whatever your pleasure, from high-speed coasters to historic carousels, there's a park nearby for you.

Northeast Ohio sits within a few hours' drive of some of the world's top amusement parks, including Cedar Point to the west, Kings Island to the south and Kennywood to the east.

Add Waldameer and Idlewild, both in western Pennsylvania, and you've got a place to play for nearly every day of the week.

Make this the summer to amuse yourself.

Today's Travel section offers information on five popular nearby parks, each offering its own appeal. Cedar Point provides the biggest thrillsIdlewild has the smallest hills.Kennywood has created the perfect mix of old and new; compact Waldameer won't leave your legs aching -- or your wallet empty.
Kings Island, outside Cincinnati, is the baby of the bunch, founded in 1972. The other four have been thrilling guests since the late 19th century.

All five have new offerings this year, from a major coaster at Cedar Point to a lazy river at Idlewild to animatronic dinosaurs at Kings Island.

What they have in common: an expertise in summertime fun (as well as tasty french fries, funnel cakes and carnival games that appear nearly impossible to win).
