Lake Erie Beach Guide

Lake Erie Beach Guide: The sand is calling as 2013 season begins

Spread out your towels, sand lovers: The Lake Erie beach season has begun.
And this summer, there's reason for an extended soaking, sand-covered celebration: The Cleveland Metroparks has taken over management of several important Cuyahoga County strands. Beach-goers are already noticing an improvement, reporting that the beaches -- at Edgewater Park, Villa Angela and Euclid Beach -- are cleaner and better maintained in the few short weeks since the park system took over control from the state of Ohio.

And that's not all. The science of monitoring the cleanliness of Lake Erie continues to improve and expand. More beaches are participating in same-day water-quality monitoring, making it easier for swimmers to get current information on water cleanliness before they dive in.

This year's Lake Erie Beach Guide includes everything you need to know before you split for the sand -- which beaches have lifeguards and which ones have bathhouses, which parks have picnic tables and which ones sell food.

So grab your sunglasses, slip on your flip-flops. Pack up your buckets and sunblock. The beach beckons.

Click a marker to find out about the beach at that point.
